Progress on the multi-million pound Bolsover Homes scheme is picking up pace as another five new properties have been handed over to Bolsover District Council.
What was an overgrown and under-used piece of land on Bakestone Moor in Whitwell has been transformed into two two-bedroom houses, two three-bedroom houses and one four-bedroom house.
These five, bring the total number of new properties in Whitwell to nine and are the first Council properties to be built in the village for over 20 years, re-iterating the Council’s ambitions to provide good quality, modern properties for their residents.
The housebuilding partnership with Robert Woodhead Limited is one of the Council’s ambitious housing programmes to provide energy-efficient properties, built to the highest standards and to meet local communities housing needs.
The houses have been built to meet the Lifetime Homes Standard which ensure they can be adapted easily to fit the needs of those living there. Each property has off-road parking, gardens and environmentally friendly features such as bat boxes, bird houses and water butts.
Bolsover District Council Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Sandra Peake said: “We have taken some overgrown and under-utilised land in Whitwell and transformed it into five brilliant new properties and we are delighted this latest phase has been completed and are now available for people to move into.
“We have always been big believers in providing council housing and over the past decade we have been working with our partners Robert Woodhead on building new council properties. So we are well ahead of the game and are leaders on the council house renaissance.”
Senior Project Manager, David Pearson, of Robert Woodhead Limited commented: “About eight months ago this site was a wilderness and it is great to see the development as it is now, it’s fabulous. With a total of five schemes in Whitwell delivering 37 brand new properties for the Council, it is great to be working with Bolsover District Council and be a part of their council house building programme. Thank you to everyone for making this scheme a huge success.”
Work continues on building more new council homes in Whitwell on Doles Lane and Sandy Lane/Thorpe Avenue.
