Families move into new council homes in time for Christmas

Northampton Borough Council’s housing provider, Northampton Partnership Homes (NPH) is celebrating the completion of 21 new homes in Collingtree. The two- and three-bedroom homes in Toms Close are modern, spacious and have large gardens that are perfect for families.

Shakil Ahmed (pictured left) is in the process of moving in and is thrilled with his new home in Collingtree: “I had a moment when I first walked into my new home where I was overwhelmed. To get something like this is amazing and moving in has come just at the right moment, before Christmas. We love the area, and we have lots of space and a large garden — my family really couldn’t ask for more. We’ll be here for many years to come.”

Building these homes has been a real partnership effort, with support from Northampton Borough Council (NBC) and top-quality work from NPH’s contractor Jeakins Weir, who worked hard to complete the development in challenging circumstances this year.

COVID-19 restrictions mean that an opening event is not possible, so NPH is instead sharing a ‘virtual opening‘ to mark the occasion, which can be viewed on its social media channels and website.

Helen Town, Assistant Director for Asset Management and Development at NPH said: “This has been a huge project and we’re delighted with it. It’s great to see families moving in, and we’re excited for the future they have ahead of them. Thank you to NBC for the help they gave us through planning and for financing this development. It’s such a shame we couldn’t hold an opening event to celebrate, but we hope that the video gives everyone the opportunity to see the new homes and appreciate the incredible support we had from local residents.”

NPH and NBC are committed to building more homes across Northampton. Councillor Jonathan Nunn, Leader of Northampton Borough Council, commented: “These homes have been built as a part of NBC and NPH’s ambitious housing programme, where we’ve committed to building over 1,000 new over the next 10 years — a target we expect to significantly exceed.

“We believe that residents deserve high quality, modern homes and this development really delivers on that. I’m sure those moving in will love the area and all of the amenities it has to offer. The new homes in Toms Close are really positive for the local community, and for Northampton as a whole. We’d like to thank our contractors and everyone at NPH for this fabulous result.”

NPH and Jeakins Weir also wish to thank the existing residents of Toms Close, for their patience and understanding while the work was completed.

Alistair Weir, Managing Director of Jeakins Weir, said: “We take great pride in the quality of our work, the strength of the relationships we build, and the positive impact we make on the communities in which we work. Toms Close has been transformed and is a great place for new residents to call home. We are proud of the 21 new homes and also of our partnership with NPH. We would also like to thank the neighbouring residents for their support whilst we have been on site.”
