Leading energy, services and regeneration specialist, ENGIE has reported unrivalled success with the Government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), with involvement in a quarter of the successful submissions across the UK.
ENGIE supported partners from the initial application through to project delivery, which involved carrying out feasibility studies, identifying areas where the highest carbon and energy savings could be achieved and producing a net zero roadmap. Tailored plans were developed to get projects off the ground and ENGIE is currently working with a number of the successful organisations to help deliver the projects.
The SHDF launched in October 2020 and awarded £62m in total to registered landlords of social housing. The SHDF Demonstrator project is an initial investment to learn lessons and catalyse innovation in retrofitting for the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, for which the manifesto committed £3.8bn of new funding.
Last year, ENGIE launched a whole house net zero carbon retrofit solution to the market, which acts as a one-stop shop to decentralise, digitalise and decarbonise homes. Retrofit solutions include the installation of solar PV and battery storage systems, fabric improvements to roof, walls and flooring, a low carbon heating and water solution, mechanical ventilation and long-term maintenance and monitoring.
The model was an integral part of the application process for the SHDF and with funding now in place, ENGIE is able to commence the delivery of these solutions for its partners.
James Cook, Divisional Director for ENGIE UK & Ireland, said: “Existing housing stock poses a serious threat to the UK’s net zero carbon ambitions, so mass scale retrofit to the built estate is imperative if we are to see these plans come to fruition.
“The Demonstrator Fund is the perfect platform to showcase viable solutions and drive substantial investment to retrofit programmes at scale. The path to net zero carbon will be challenging, but ENGIE has the capabilities and models available to push this forward and our success with the SHDF has cemented our reputation as a specialist within the sector.
“We are thrilled to have been able to support many of our social housing partners and local authorities across the UK to obtain the funding and now begin delivery.”
