Construction begins on 30 energy-efficient affordable homes in Deddington near Banbury

Social housing provider Stonewater celebrates the start of construction on 30 new energy-efficient affordable homes on Banbury Road in Deddington village, near Banbury.

The new rental and shared ownership properties are part of a larger 85-home development, named Deddington Grange, by housebuilder David Wilson Homes.

Working in partnership with David Wilson Homes, Stonewater will deliver a mixture of 21 one-, two- and three-bedroom houses and a one-bedroom bungalow for affordable rent. A further nine two- and three-bedroom houses will be available for low-cost shared ownership. The affordable homes will be built over four phases, with the first six rental properties ready for occupation in June this year. All the properties will have private back gardens and parking.

“With average house prices in the Cherwell District around 10 times the average local salary at £307,862 and local rents more than a third of average wages in the community, many young people and families are being priced out of the area,” says Jonathan Layzell, Stonewater’s Executive Director for Development.

“This is why the right type of affordable housing which meets local needs is so vital to keeping villages like Deddington alive and prospering for future generations.” Jonathan added: “We hope that these purpose-built new Stonewater homes in Deddington Grange will not only help tackle the shortage of good quality affordable housing in the area, but also stimulate local economic growth and prosperity.”

Within five minutes walking distance from Deddington high street and local shops, the smart new Stonewater development will feature a children’s play park.

Andrew Dauncey, Project Director at David Wilson Homes, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Stonewater to provide high-quality affordable homes for Oxfordshire. These affordable homes will sit in our Deddington Grange development, which will be an excellent place to live with the open spaces throughout the development and the desirable village of Deddington nearby.”

Stonewater is also currently working on Hanwell View, a 153-affordable-home scheme on Southam Road, Banbury.
