Cllr Tracy Kelly, Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Housing, Property and Regeneration at Salford City Council, joined Great Places Housing Group to view progress on the site at a new £3.8m development at Highfield Road in Little Hulton.
Cllr Kelly and local councillors Cllr Teresa Pepper and Cllr Rob Sharpe were joined by Great Places’ Chief Executive, Matthew Harrison and Executive Director of Growth, Helen Spencer on a tour of the site which will include supported housing for adults with learning disabilities and two- and three-bedroom houses for affordable rent.
Great Places has worked in close partnership with Salford Adult Services to realise the development. The two blocks of bespoke designed supported housing will provide homes for eight residents, and includes a communal dining area, outdoor amenity space and onsite staff accommodation. The supported accommodation also has an enhanced specification to ensure it meets residents’ long-term needs, enabling them to thrive in a place close to family and friends.
Delivered in partnership with P Casey & Co Ltd, the site for the development was acquired from Salford City Council and the scheme will be funded through Homes England, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Salford City Council and Great Places.
Commenting on the visit, Matthew Harrison, Chief Executive at Great Places said: “We’re delighted to have shown Cllr. Kelly around the new site. The city council identified the need for this type of supported housing in the local area, and we’ve worked in partnership over several years to unlock this important new development.
“We’re delighted to be starting work on Highfield Road and are committed to working with the council to provide this type of accommodation, that allows residents to remain or move closer to friends and family in accommodation which meets their support needs.”
Councillor Tracy Kelly, Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Housing, Property and Regeneration at Salford City Council, added: “This development when finished will provide much needed supported tenancy schemes as well as two and three bedroomed homes for affordable rent.
“The supported tenancy scheme is vitally important as when it is fully open it means we can deliver much more targeted support and bring people back to the city who have had to move outside for their vital care.
“I cannot wait until next year when the ribbon is cut and we start the exciting process of moving people in.”
Work is expected to complete in March 2024.
