Bruton Knowles expands public sector client base across UK

Leading Chartered Surveyor firm, Bruton Knowles, has secured six bid wins in just the last three months for six new public sector clients — ranging from Wales to Hertfordshire to the West Midlands, the Northeast and Northwest; all choosing experienced National Teams to deliver key schemes re-emerging in the post pandemic era.

Bruton Knowles has been appointed to support the Land Division of the devolved administration of the Welsh Government. It will also be working for two blue light services, Hertfordshire Constabulary and Cheshire Fire Authority, statutory body Merseyside Recycling & Waste Authority, plus two local authorities, Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council and Scarborough Borough Council.

Bruton Knowles already acts on behalf of a significant number of public organisations, on both a retained and a project basis, and is seen as a trusted partner in delivering high-quality surveying advice.

In Wales, the National Public Sector Team is gearing up to advise the Decarbonisation Strategy Board of the Welsh Government Land Division and Welsh Local Government Association.

This is a strategically important initiative, which aims to oversee decarbonisation work across all councils in Wales, ensuring investment, strategy and policy are as effective as possible.

In the south, Hertfordshire Constabulary is progressing plans to demolish the former derelict Borehamwood police station and replace it with two residential tower blocks.

Specialists from Bruton Knowles’ Planning and Development service, located at the Guildford office, will be providing expertise and robust appraisals to determine the viability of the development.

These will forecast the justifiable levels of affordable housing within the project to ensure it can be taken forward in the most effective way.

In the Northwest, Cheshire Fire Authority is looking to conduct a full valuation on its property portfolio. National Valuation Team professionals, based out of Bruton Knowles’ Manchester office, will undertake this work as an annual desktop exercise.

Also in this same region, experts from the firm’s National Valuation Team are to undertake capital accounting valuation work for Liverpool City Region’s strategic waste and resource management body.

They will be assessing landfill and waste disposal sites as well as equipment for the Merseyside Recycling & Waste Authority, providing technical advice to determine their commercial and environmental importance.

In the West Midlands, staff from Bruton Knowles’ National Valuation Team located in the Birmingham office, are involved in providing advice to Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.

They are delivering valuation expertise in relation to a specific plot of land off Oldbury Road in the market town of West Bromwich. This will enable the organisation to determine how it might sit within its land and property portfolio moving forwards.

Finally, in the Northeast, representatives from Bruton Knowles’ National Building Consultancy Team are to advise Scarborough Borough Council on their property portfolio. This comprises over 40 assets — including an open-air theatre and a listed town hall — all of which have to be inspected every five-years to determine their reinstatement costs.

Staff from the Leeds office will be involved in these assessments, which are required for insurance purposes. They will ensure the hidden risk of underinsurance is tackled head on with up-to-date valuations.

James Bailey, Managing Partner at Bruton Knowles, commented: “We’re delighted with these recent bid wins which in total are worth almost £90,000.

“They all reflect the breadth and depth of our work across our National Teams and the geographic reach that we offer across the country.

“The public sector, be that national or local Government or the emergency services, continues to be squeezed in having to deliver more for less, with fewer resources.

“Our approach has always been to deliver an honest, transparent and expert service for our clients to enable them to use their land and property assets in the most efficient way.”

Bruton Knowles offers a one-stop-shop for clients, with its four National Teams — Valuation, Commercial, Utilities & Infrastructure and Building Consultancy — providing a point of contact to deliver an entire project to the exacting standards required.

National Teams have been significant for Bruton Knowles’ business portfolio over the past year, and there are plans to launch more in due course.
