Birchington-on-Sea has received a boost to its affordable housing provision as Orbit, one of the UK’s largest developing housing associations, unveils new building offering 32 high-quality flats for affordable rent at Quex Court.
Built by local Kent construction firm, Chartway Group, Quex Court offers 20 one-bedroom properties and 12 two-bedroom properties, with Thanet District Council having the nominated rights to the properties for local residents.
The new building, which replaces a former care home owned by Orbit, which was no longer fit for purpose, is part two-storey, part three-storey, offering residents generous spaces and facilities with a high-quality build.
A communal garden to the rear of the property offers a shared outdoor space, with ground floor flats benefiting from private gardens. A piazza to the front of the building provides residents with a further shared space, together with a parking area providing ample parking.
Quex Court is just six minutes’ walk to the town centre and only 1km to the local train station with the beach located 20 minutes’ walk away, making these flats desirable properties.
Celebrating 50 years as an organisation, Orbit recently reported record growth having developed 1,788 new homes across its operating areas in the last financial year.
Kieran O’Leary, Development Manager at Orbit said: “Quex Court demonstrates Orbit’s commitment to investing in and developing high-quality housing which meets local need and aspiration. We hope prospective customers enjoy their new home as a new community is formed in Birchington-on-Sea. ”
Tim McLoughlin, Project Director for Chartway Group commented: “This high-quality scheme of affordable flats offered at Quex Court is the latest project that Chartway Group have worked with Orbit to deliver. As a Kent company, we enjoy helping improve the housing provision in the county as well as creating homes that are built to last for people to enjoy.”
