Housing provider Abri has acquired a site on Lavant Street in Petersfield to deliver 34 new apartments in partnership with local contractor 6a Vision Homes.
The homes, which will be delivered for social rent (approximately 50% of local private rent), will make a valuable contribution to addressing the need for affordable housing in East Hampshire, where the affordable housing waiting list exceeds 1,500 people. Abri will use its own funding alongside grant funding from Homes England to make the homes affordable.
The homes will be made up of a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments and will include sustainable features to help lower running costs and carbon emissions. Solar panels will be placed on south facing roofs and green roofs will be implemented on certain external areas to encourage flora and fauna to grow and aid biodiversity.
Fergus Cruikshank, Head of Land and Planning at Abri said:
“The newly acquired site is ideally positioned to offer good quality and affordable homes in the heart of Petersfield. Being able to provide all the homes as social rent will make such a difference for people and combined with the sustainable features, we hope they’ll help lower running costs.
“Building these homes is another important step in Abri’s overall commitment to building 10,000 homes by 2030. We look forward to working in partnership and progressing the homes with 6a Vision to create a well-connected and thriving community.”
Peter J Noë, Construction Director at 6a Vision Homes, added: “6a Vision Homes has been delivering high-quality housing across Petersfield and the surrounding areas for over a decade. Delivering this highly sustainable residential housing scheme for Abri is a significant milestone for us. The need for quality, affordable homes in the local community is more important than ever, and we’re proud to play a role in addressing this demand right here in Petersfield.”
Work on building the new homes is expected to start at the end of 2024 with the homes completed by late 2026.
