whg has announced plans to build canalside apartments at a former factory site in Walsall after acquiring the land from Square Space Ventures Ltd.
A total of 72 homes are set to be built at the former Metafin site, on Green Lane, as the area undergoes a transformation. Work is already underway at the nearby former Caparo steelworks where the housing association is building 252 homes in joint venture with Lovell Partnerships.
Rebecca Bennett Casserly, Corporate Director of Development, commented: “We are committed to transforming derelict and neglected areas of Walsall into thriving communities and are already doing a lot of work to regenerate this area of Walsall.
“This exciting scheme, which has been supported by Walsall Council and Homes England, will breathe new life into a brownfield site and provide a further housing boost for the area. Together with the adjacent Lockside development, the sites will bring more than 320 high quality, affordable and energy-efficient homes to the town, creating a new place to be very much proud of.”
Work is expected to start in the Summer with completion in 2024.
