Your Housing Group hosts parliamentary drop-in to discuss affordable housing and community needs

Your Housing Group (YHG) hosted a group of North-West MPs in Parliament last week to discuss the need for more affordable housing, the importance of new developments and other potential reforms to housing policy.

Senior representatives from the Warrington based housing association travelled to Portcullis House, Westminster, for the meeting which was well attended, with five MPs from across the region taking part in the discussions.

The event provided an opportunity to share constituency-level data, discuss housing challenges, and explore how YHG and parliamentarians can work together to improve outcomes for residents.

Access to social housing and discussions about new development opportunities were the issues raised most often by MPs, alongside casework and other general updates. The MPs also expressed interest in reforms to housing policy including Right to Buy and improving support for housing management teams who increasingly work with customers facing complex needs.

The event was attended by Jo Platt MP who was keen to talk about YHG properties in Leigh and how they can support local residents.

Jo Platt MP said: “It was great to follow up with YHG to discuss residents’ concerns and explore how we can continue working collaboratively to expand the availability of social housing across the constituency. Access to affordable, secure homes is vital and I remain firmly committed to advocating for new developments in the right locations here in Leigh and Atherton, ensuring that local needs are met.”

Jacque Allen, Chief Executive of Your Housing Group, commented: “Our priority is ensuring everyone has a safe place to call home. Events like this allow us to work closely with MPs to address housing challenges and explore opportunities for how we work together in future. We want to say a big thank you to all the MPs who took the time to come along and talk to us and to Charlotte Nichols MP for sponsoring our event.”

YHG will continue its programme of MP engagement, with further meetings planned in the coming weeks.
