More than 50 contractors have won their bids for work in a new £94m asbestos, demolition and water hygiene framework hosted by leading regional procurement specialist EN:Procure.
Of the 54 celebrating their appointment, 47 are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), underlining the organisation’s commitment to championing smaller businesses.
EN:Procure, the procurement arm of social housing consortium Efficiency North, says the latest ‘Gen-4’ version will mainly be applied to the completion of a range of asbestos removal and demolition works and water hygiene removal works. As well as social housing, the framework could extend to public sector and commercial buildings.
The new framework has an estimated value of £93.75m, with EN:Procure originally appealing to SMEs operating in the North of England to apply. That approach supports its primary goal of enhancing local communities in the region.
Emma Mottram, Director of Operations at EN:Procure, said the team had been impressed with the knowledge, skills and commitment of those firms that applied. This opportunity gives those appointed the chance to further develop their businesses through their place on the framework.
Emma said: “The asbestos and demolition sector is of huge importance to the construction industry, with projects needing careful planning to protect workers and the public when dealing with this hazardous material that can have serious legal and health-related consequences.
“We need this pool of highly-skilled and trusted operators to be involved in the safe handling of asbestos, in line with UK regulations. I’m also pleased to be working with such a good mix of existing and new framework contractors, with 57% of them partnering with EN:Procure for the first time.”
The framework is being procured under EN:Procure’s latest Gen-4 generation of tenders, incorporating the FAC-1 Framework Agreement and dynamic models for ESG delivery, reflecting many of the themes in the Government’s Constructing the Gold Standard report. It will provide a wide range of social, economic and environmental benefits for communities served by Efficiency North’s membership of social housing providers.

The framework contract is divided into lots, including asbestos consultancy and survey services, air monitoring services, licensed and unlicensed asbestos removal works, low and high-rise demolition works and water hygiene management and remedial works.
The framework will run for 48 months until 20th July 2029.
