L&Q has launched a new apprenticeship campaign, offering 20 aspiring tradespeople the opportunity to kickstart their careers — with more places expected to open later this year.
The lhousing association is doubling down on its investment in future talent by expanding its apprenticeship and graduate programme across the organisation. This year, the intake will double in size, with 20 new roles in plumbing, joinery, roofing, and heating installation. Successful candidates will join L&Q’s teams in Greater London and Greater Manchester.
These apprenticeships offer participants the chance to earn while they learn, combining paid hands-on experience with fully funded qualifications. Apprentices will receive expert-on-the-job training, structured development programmes, a competitive salary and access to a range of employee benefits — including a health cash plan and employee assistance programme.
This year’s cohort will also benefit from L&Q’s partnerships with specialist training providers and mentorship from experienced staff, many of whom began their own careers as apprentices. In addition to technical skills, apprentices will build broader capabilities in areas including health and safety, communication and networking.
Applications for Greater Manchester roles are now open, with positions in the South available from Tuesday 27th May. Successful candidates will start in August 2025. To find out more and apply, visit our careers page: https://www.lqgroup.org.uk/working-at-landq
Dominic Thurston, Head of L&D Academy said: “We’re proud of our Early Talent programme and the brilliant apprentices and graduates it has nurtured — many of whom have grown into long-term roles at L&Q.
“In the age of AI, the trades offer something different — roles that are flexible, fulfilling and built to last. Whether you’re starting out or looking for a new direction, an apprenticeship gives you the best of both worlds: a salary while you learn, and a qualification that sets you up for life.”
David Lewis, Executive Director of Property Services at L&Q commented: “Apprenticeships are central to how we future proof our workforce. With more than a third of UK tradespeople aged over 50, the skills gap poses a real threat to our ability to build and maintain homes.
“We’ve made a long-term commitment to investing in the quality and safety of residents’ homes — and that means creating real, lasting career opportunities.
“If you’re considering applying, my advice is simple: go for it. You’ll gain hands-on experience, learn from skilled professionals, and join a team that truly supports your growth.”
L&Q currently employs more than 39 apprentices in post, including 20 who joined last year. One of these is George Robb, an apprentice joiner based in Trafford.
George said: “It wasn’t enough to go to university just for the fun experience. I wanted to get a head-start on my future and avoid the debt.I’ve learnt so much — how to change locks, fix windows, fit doors and even things outside of what joiners typically do. It’s a skillset you can take anywhere, and one that guarantees a job for life.”
