Cala Homes will be partnering with bpha to provide 80 affordable homes on the outskirts of Cambridge.
Part of a 200 homes development, the affordable homes include a mix of 30 social rent, 30 affordable rent and 20 for shared ownership, close to Addenbrookes Hospital to the south-east of the city. The homes will provide one- bedroomed apartments to four-bedroom houses all benefiting from excellent transport links to central Cambridge.
All homes will be built using a thermally efficient Timber Frame construction and will include further energy efficient measures such as Air Source Heat Pumps and EV charging.
Jeff Astle, bpha’s Development Director said: “Cambridge has significantly higher property values than average and many local people are priced out of access to a home to rent or buy. We are pleased to be developing vital new homes in partnership with Cala that will be affordable for rent and also assist first time buyers through shared ownership. These homes are part of our ongoing commitment to provide genuinely affordable homes in Cambridge and across bpha’s operating area.”
Alexandra Deol, Area Land Director at Cala Homes (North Home Counties) said: “As a region this is the first time, we will be partnering with bpha to deliver much-needed high-quality homes. Cambridge is one of fastest growing and most in-demand locations in the country, and it is vital that properties are available through a range of tenures. These new homes will be built to a Home Quality Mark ‘4-star’ rating, meaning they’re designed and built to have a lower impact on the environment. The homes will help to address the housing affordability crisis in Cambridge by delivering more homes, including 80 affordable homes, to support people with an ambition to eventually own their own home.”
Work is already underway, with the new homes to be delivered over the next two years. First completions are anticipated as soon as October this year, with all homes completed by early 2027.
