Pupils at a Hull primary school wore hard hats and hi-vis clothing for a lively lesson in construction site safety from homes and regeneration specialist Compendium Living and project partner Lovell.
Lovell, which is working on a major new homes programme close to Westcott Primary School in Ings, east Hull, joined forces with developer Compendium Living to organise the interactive safety awareness session, helping youngsters understand the potential dangers of construction activity.

Dan Osborne and Nicola Bailey talked to 140 four- and five-year-old Key Stage 1 pupils, reinforcing the message to the youngsters that they should never go unsupervised on to a building site.
During the presentation, youngsters dressed up in protective clothing and equipment worn by construction workers and took part in a ‘spot the hazard’ competition to identify possible dangers on-site such as machinery and vehicles.
“We’re currently building new homes less than two miles from the school and it’s important to us that we do everything we can to make sure children and young people understand that they should keep safe by staying away from construction sites,” said Lovell’s Dan Osborne. “We discuss with the children why sites should never be used as places to play and make it fun and memorable through hands-on activities and games.”
Beth Took, Year 1 and 2 teacher at Westcott Primary School, added: “We loved our visit from the team at Lovell. It was a great opportunity for the children to learn in a fun and engaging way from the people who actually work day-to-day on the site.”
Lovell began work earlier this year on the latest new homes being delivered by Compendium Living — a joint venture company set up by Lovell and The Riverside Group — as part of a large-scale regeneration development for Hull City Council.
The Leeway 2, a £9.3m development of 68 new family homes, mostly for open market sale, is being built on land at Finchley Close and Hammersmith Road, off Middlesex Road. The development is the latest phase of Compendium Living’s long-term partnership with the council which is transforming the Ings area with modern, high-quality homes.
