Chalkdene Developments LLP has received resolution to grant planning approval for 30 new homes in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire.
Hertfordshire County Council has entered an option to sell the former Lannock Primary School site to Chalkdene to enable the construction of 30 two-bedroomed homes on the Jackmans estate. Lovell Partnerships will construct the homes.
On completion of the development, the properties will be provided as affordable homes for rent by Letchworth-based social landlord, settle.
Ben Harrop, general manager at Chalkdene Developments, said: “It is fantastic to have a positive decision from the planning committee to develop new homes in Letchworth. Chalkdene is creating opportunities to regenerate underutilised and surplus land owned by Hertfordshire County Council, to provide vital new homes in support of the county’s growth. We are looking forward to taking the next step forward on this project, with work expected to start on site in spring 2021.”
The properties, which are spaciously spread across the site, are a mix of detached and semi-detached homes.
Gavin Cansfield, chief executive at settle, said: “At settle, we’re committed to working with partners and residents to invest in neighbourhoods and good quality new homes. It is great to see the decision of the planning committee and we’re really excited about this opportunity to work with Chalkdene Developments to provide these much-needed new affordable homes in the heart of the Jackmans estate, one of settle’s largest neighbourhoods in Letchworth.
“We’ve used our knowledge from working with residents, local partners and the community to tailor the design of the development so that all of the new homes will be two-bedroomed, as we know that more homes of this size are really needed in this area.”
Chalkdene Developments is a partnership between Herts Living Limited and Morgan Sindall Investments.
