WDH give homes in Featherstone a roof refresh with concrete tiles from Wienerberger

Roof tiles from Wienerberger’s Sandoft concrete range were selected to give a new lease of life to one of WDH’s social housing developments in Featherstone, West Yorkshire.

Working closely with WDH’s Investments and Improvements team, Wienerberger supplied 2,000m² of concrete roof tiles for their 12 week refurbishment programme. The housing association’s team of in-house contractors carried out full roof replacements for 16 bungalows on Priordale Road, whilst another 68 houses received remedial work to their insulation, eaves, fascias and soffits.

Craig Smith, Senior Project Officer at WDH, commented: “By using Sandtoft products, our team of fitters were able to finish the roofs with an impressive quality of workmanship which our tenants are delighted with. This project is part of our Capital Investment Programme which aims to create better living environments for residents by improving the appearance of our estates. These key roof renovations will also extend the life cycle of these properties and reduce the need for future repairs and maintenance.”

The Sandtoft concrete roof tiles provide a high level of quality and consistency, with long lasting colors and a rich aesthetic appeal, making them ideal for social housing projects.

WDH selected Double Pantiles for the bungalows’ pitched roofing and Plain Tiles for the vertical façade tiling, both in the Rustic colour for an authentic aged look. These tiles were chosen as they complied with Building Regulations and were previously used on another WDH project located in close proximity to Priordale Road, bringing a sense of cohesion to the area.

Ideal for creating visually appealing flowing lines on rooftops, the Sandtoft interlocking double pantile is a popular and economical roof covering choice, balancing cost-effectiveness with high performance standards. The manufacturer’s Koraflex lead replacement flashing solution product was also used on this project.

A key element of Wienerberger’s technical support service that appealed to WDH was the RoofSpec online tool. It generates a comprehensive set of specification clauses that ensures a roof is designed and installed to latest standards and guidelines. By following these guidelines, the Priordale Road project was given a 15-year RoofSpec guarantee.
