Newmarket affordable homes development wins award for considerate construction

A new affordable homes development built by Lovell for Flagship Group in St John’s Avenue, Newmarket, has received a national accolade for considerate construction.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme has presented a Silver National Site Award to the Lovell project team which built the 21-home development, made up of 13 homes for affordable rent and eight homes for shared ownership. The new homes were completed in November 2017.

The St John’s Avenue scheme is one of only 816 construction projects out of more than 6,500 registered with the national Considerate Constructors Scheme to achieve an award in 2018. The National Site Awards recognise construction projects which show the highest levels of consideration to the public, the workforce and the environment.

Lovell Regional Managing Director Simon Medler said: “Working sensitively and with care and respect for those around us is a priority on all our construction projects. I’m delighted that the hard work, professionalism and community focus of our project team on the St John’s Avenue scheme has been recognised by this sought-after National Site Award.”

Flagship Project Manager Lee Webster added: “It’s fantastic that we have achieved this award. To be singled out for recognition from the many schemes eligible is incredible.”

The Considerate Constructors assessors praised the St John’s Avenue development as showing ‘exceptional respect’ for the local community, with extensive communication to keep local people informed about the work and measures taken to minimise any disruption. Lovell was also commended for safeguarding the environment including through waste management and energy-saving measures and through initiatives to protect wildlife, including the provision of bird boxes.

Considerate Constructors Scheme Chief Executive Edward Hardy commented: “The growth of the National Site Awards year-on-year reflects the expansion of the construction industry’s commitment to raise standards in considerate construction across an ever increasing number of sites throughout the UK and Ireland. This year’s award-winning sites have all demonstrated a relentless commitment to help improve the image of our industry.”
