Doncaster families move into their new council homes

The keys to new council homes have been handed over to families at two further housing developments in Doncaster.

The 58 new council homes at Willow Grove in Thorne and Bristol Grove in Wheatley, are the latest in a string of new homes to be completed across the borough.
A mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, they form part of Doncaster Council’s Affordable Housing Programme 2015-18 which has already seen over 200 council-owned homes delivered for the benefit of local residents through the scheme.

They have been built in partnership between Doncaster Council, St Leger Homes, Homes England and the developer Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd.

Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Housing and Equalities, Cllr Glyn Jones, said: “I am delighted to see young families and older people settling into their new homes as we hand over the keys for the latest council houses built across our borough.

“We are fully committed to supporting the development of quality housing that people in Doncaster need and want. That means building a wide range of appropriate homes — including affordable housing and council homes — for people and families of all ages and backgrounds. I am extremely proud of what we have achieved. We have seen a significant number of new council homes go up in the last two years and we have four further schemes underway which will provide a further 140 council homes.”

Paul Tanney, Chief Executive at St Leger Homes of Doncaster, added: “It’s great that we are able to manage these new, affordable homes on behalf of Doncaster Council, for the benefit of so many families in Doncaster. This building programme of new council houses is continuing to make a real difference to the lives of hundreds of local people who are in need of high quality, comfortable homes for them and their families.”

The new homes are funded through a combination of Homes England grant and funding allocated from Doncaster Council’s Capital Programme. St Leger Homes will manage and maintain the homes which will be let at an affordable rent to people who meet the local lettings policy criteria.
