Catalyst Housing wins big at SHIFT Awards 2016

Catalyst Housing took home two SHIFT Awards at this year’s event, including the highly prized Sustainable Housing Provider of the Year.

The housing association won two categories at this year’s SHIFT Awards 2016 — the ‘Sustainable Housing Provider of the Year’ and ‘Best in ClassOffice and Operations’ accolades. Catalyst has also maintained its status as a ‘Gold’ level SHIFT landlord.

Catalyst has placed sustainability at the heart of its business and has developed a number of initiatives aimed at reducing the carbon output across the organisation. Catalyst’s Sustainability Annual Report has highlighted the business’s many achievements, including an overall 25% reduction in its carbon footprint.

The in-house sustainability team has helped spread knowledge and best practise amongst staff and customers by producing e-learning modules and holding events. The latest project is an Energy Club, designed to establish a network of resident energy champions and help them give energy advice to families, friends and neighbours in their communities.

Julia Moulder, executive director of development, said: “The SHIFT assessment evaluates the sustainability of our whole business, so it is truly a One Team award. The award for Sustainable Housing Provider of the Year is the most coveted award, and a testimony to the work we have put in to reducing our carbon footprint as a business, and to reducing fuel poverty for our residents.

“Our Sustainability team have worked tirelessly to lead this work, but it can’t succeed without everyone doing their part. The good news is that it is not only the planet we are saving: all these things produce savings to our running costs, so we can invest more in our homes and our residents.”
